Coworker Setup and First Run

1. What installation actually gives you

The README offers downloadable builds for:

  • macOS,
  • Windows,
  • Linux.

That means the easiest first-run path is product-style installation rather than source setup.

2. What the first run should prove

A successful first run should show:

  1. the desktop app works,
  2. one provider or local model path is connected,
  3. one low-risk local task completes,
  4. the approval and log flow feels understandable.

3. Provider choice is the real first-run decision

Coworker supports many hosted providers plus local-model paths like:

  • Ollama,
  • LM Studio.

That makes provider selection one of the most important onboarding choices.

4. Good evaluation sequence

  1. install the desktop app,
  2. connect one model backend,
  3. test one file or document task,
  4. test one browser workflow only after basic trust is established.

5. Why start with low-risk tasks

Because Coworker can act on local files and browser tasks, it is best to begin with drafts, summaries, or harmless reorganizations before moving into sensitive workflows.
